Aaj tanhaai kisi humdum-e-dereen ki tarah
Karne aayee hai meri saaqigiri shaam dhale
Muntazir baithe hum dono ki mehtaab ubhre
Aur tera aks dhalakne lage har saaye ke tale

Loneliness returns at dusk
like a long-lost friend,
come to play Saaqi,
come to bring me wine.
We both sit impatiently
for the moon to rise,
for your essence to exude
from out of the shadows.
